Thousands of people flocked to Priory Park to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday at Reigate Business Guild’s ‘A Very British Reigate Party’.
Supporting the Royal British Legion, the event was led by an opening procession through Reigate town centre by the Surrey and Sussex Drum & Bugle Corps. Those who had waited patiently in the rain followed the procession through to the stage in Priory Park where His Worshipful the Mayor of Reigate Cllr David Brown was waiting to address the crowd to formally open the event.
Despite the morning the rain, the stoic and quite frankly proudly British folk of Reigate, ignored the slightly inclement weather to go along and enjoy the day.
The music line up proved hugely popular with Bell & the Busker opening the stage, followed by crowd-pleasers Allcock & Brown, talented local songwriter Eddy and the 507, Joanna Forest crossover soprano and killer band Ruby & the Rhythms, all held together on stage by Nick Wyschna from Guildford Fringe.
The food and drink stalls were fabulous serving top end, irresistible fayre, all having a sell-out day!
The beautiful vintage fair was a massive hit with the families, as was the ‘sports day’ organised by Reigate Martial Arts.
The icing on the royal cake was the rousing Proms Finale performance by Joanna Forest in her Union Jack dress wowing the audience to patriotic flag waving and singing.
It was certainly a day to remember.
Special thanks to RBBC Parks, The Matthews Organisation, Reigate Martial Arts and Mandy Jenkins from Royal British Legion, Surrey for all their help and to Guild members Root and Prosper, The Cage Wine Bar, Stonemans, The Bulls Head, All About You, Halliwell Marks, WS Planning, Martin & Co, Fillz and Experience Design.
